Great care must be taken to ensure that the product quality does not deteriorate during storage. Such product degradation can be caused by light and by the adverse effects of oxygen from the air, which diffuses through the plastic wall of the bottle.
To eliminate these negative effects, SF&DS has systems to produce three and six-layer HDPE bottles. The three-layer bottle features a black light barrier sandwiched between the inner and outer HDPE layers, which completely eliminates light transmission through the bottle. When the product is also sensitive to oxygen, an additional oxygen barrier is required. For this purpose an extra layer can be incorporated in the bottle wall. As this layer does not bind well to HDPE, extra intermediate layers (bonding layers) are applied on both sides of this layer. In this way, a bottle is created with a wall consisting of six layers, which therefore offers optimal protection against external influences.
